Gifting Securities to the Registered Nurses Foundation of BC
The Federal Budget of 2006 has made donating securities more appealing than ever before. A gift of publicly-traded securities, such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds is a fiscally prudent way to make a gift to the Registered Nurses Foundation of British Columbia (RNFBC). If you own publicly-traded securities that have appreciated and you decide to sell them, 50 per cent of the capital gain is taxable. However, if you donate these securities "as is" to RNFBC, you will not pay any tax on the capital gain. Securities are equally effective when given in the future through a bequest in your will.
How to Give
Simply contact your broker or financial advisor and discuss your wish to make a gift of securities to RNFBC. Please complete our gifting securities form and provide it to your broker. Your broker will contact RNFBC’s broker, Patrick Geach to arrange transfer of the securities to RNFBC’s brokerage account. Upon receipt of the securities, we will be able to confirm with you the value at closing of sale of the securities on the day they were received into our account. You will receive a charitable gift receipt for this amount.
You may also wish to fill out our gifting securities form and fax it directly to RNFBC at 604-661-7494. For more information or should you have any questions about this process, please contact by email at supportrnf@rnfbc.ca
