Bursary Impact

In 2025 we received 2911 completed applications for bursaries and distributed 676 bursaries for a total value of $1,021,000.

We are very grateful to the many donors who make this work possible and the grant from the Ministry of Health which allowed up to distribute significantly more support to nursing students.. Without the support from all sources, none of this work would be possible. We also thank all the nurses and nursing students who applied for support. We wish each and every one of you success in your studies and your future career.

Here are some excerpts from letters of thanks which illustrate what support from RNFBC means to our students.

“My goals as of now are to complete my nursing degree and start practicing. I find that I love my clinical experiences. It is very nice to be able to actively practice what I have been learning over the last couple years. Finally getting to put it into practice is refreshing. I really enjoy taking care of people and building that connection with them. I hope to continue my education, becoming a nurse practitioner, but that is in the future. Right now, it’s one step at a time! I really appreciate the support in my studies and hope that one day I will be able to accomplish my goals and help others.

“As an Employed Student Nurse, I have had the pleasure of working alongside Registered Nurses and have been blown away by how much I am learning every day, how much teamwork and collaboration is involved, and how supported I feel on my unit. The part of nursing that really does encourage me and the portion I enjoy is being able to work alongside dedicated professionals who are passionate about the safe and high quality care they provide.

I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude for the privilege to receive this generous bursary award. Your support will help alleviate the cost of tuition for the upcoming semester, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies and clinical practice. Thank you once again for your generosity and commitment to supporting future nurses.

BCIT – Undergraduate

” I would like to start off this letter by introducing myself. I am a first-year nursing student at CNC and will be graduating from UNBC. I was born in Pemberton, B.C, and have remained in the Okanagan ever since.

Having been accepted to CNC, the question became how badly I wanted to become a nurse, and was it is worth leaving my partner, and my friends and family to move to northern B.C. After much thought (and tears) I decided that I would move up North to Quesnel. I am now halfway through my first semester and I can safely say that I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

Receiving this Bursary means so much to me, as it connects me to my paternal grandmother or, as I know her, “Granny,” and even though she is not here to watch me explore my career in nursing, I hope she knows that she has helped me get here in many ways and that this Bursary is just one more leg up to join the noble profession of nursing.

Lastly, I would like to say a genuine thank you to the Vancouver General SoN Alumnae Association, for providing me with this great help to cover the financials of my education and providing more comfort to me living alone, away from everything familiar to me. I will be applying the bursary to my tuition for next semester. And I hope to make the association, and my Granny proud, and thank you again for this opportunity.”

“This bursary makes a tangible difference. Graduate costs add up quickly, and your support eases financial pressure so I can dedicate my time and energy where it matters most. It will help me sustain momentum in my coursework, prepare for candidacy, and continue my advocacy with focus and purpose.

I am mindful of RNFBC’s long history of investing in nurses across British Columbia. Your commitment demonstrates confidence in our profession and inspires us to translate learning into better care. I intend to meet that expectation.

Thank you for investing in my education and for supporting the future of nursing. I am deeply grateful for this support and look forward to sharing the outcomes of my doctoral work.”

Doctor of Nursing Student, University of Calgary

“As part of the Informatics Health Equity Lab at UBC-O, under the mentorship of Dr. Charlene Ronquillo, I am involved in important research on the intersection of technologies (including AI) and nursing practice. Being a part of this work is important to me because, historically, nurses have been required to implement things when they are rarely asked to be involved in the process. I am constantly awed by the efforts to advocate for the needs of nurses at the point of care, which are still poorly considered in the design, development and implementation of health information systems and technologies. One of my overarching goals in my career is to make sure the voices of nurses are heard. Thank you for this support. Your generosity allows me to continue my research and contribute to advancing the field of nursing and health equity.”

“I am deeply grateful for the RNFBC Bursary that allowed me to finish a certificate in change management. I am a registered nurse with 14 years of experience, currently working in a leadership role, and this course marks an important step in my professional development. It complements my ongoing commitment to advancing healthcare through thoughtful, strategic leadership…. This course is already helping me apply new strategies to support my team and align our work with broader organizational goals.
