Since 2006, Heather Mass has been a dedicated supporter of the Registered Nurses Foundation of B.C. (RNFBC), working tirelessly to advance nursing education and ensure the next generation of nurses has access to the financial support they need. Her passion for the profession is deeply rooted in her own experiences—not only as a nurse herself but as part of a proud family tradition of nursing excellence.
Heather comes from a lineage of strong, compassionate nurses. Her mother and grandmother dedicated their lives to the profession, shaping her understanding of nurses’ vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. This tradition has continued with her daughter, who is also an accomplished nurse, further underscoring Heather’s belief in the importance of fostering and supporting skilled nurses in British Columbia.
Throughout her career, Heather has held various clinical and leadership roles, allowing her to witness firsthand the evolving landscape of nursing in BC.
In recent years, Heather has been deeply concerned about the growing shortage of nurses and the increasing demand for healthcare professionals across the province. The healthcare system is under pressure, and RNFBC has been at the forefront, helping to bridge the gap by providing bursaries for nursing students at all levels, ensuring BC continues to have highly trained, well-educated nurses to meet the needs of its communities.
Heather’s commitment to nursing education and professional development has been unwavering. She has worked alongside RNFBC and ARNBC to advocate for greater financial support for nurses pursuing both basic and advanced education, recognizing that continuous learning is essential in an ever-evolving healthcare environment.
As we honour Heather Mass, we celebrate her dedication, leadership, and advocacy – a legacy that will continue to impact the lives of nurses and the patients they serve for generations to come. Her work ensures that BC’s healthcare system remains strong, supported by a highly skilled and compassionate nursing workforce. RNFBC is proud to recognize Heather’s outstanding contributions at this year’s Celebration Luncheon, a testament to her lifelong commitment to the nursing profession.
