We are honoured to welcome two exceptional leaders to the RNFBC Board of Directors: Agnes T. (Aggie) Black and Dr. Catharine Schiller. Both bring extensive experience, a deep dedication to the nursing profession, and a strong commitment to advancing healthcare in British Columbia and beyond.
Agnes T. Black, RN, MPH, has recently retired from her position as Director of Research and Knowledge Translation at Providence Health Care. With 28 years of nursing experience, Aggie has championed evidence-informed practice through initiatives like the Practice-based Research Challenge. She is a widely published researcher and a passionate advocate for climate and planetary health, currently serving as the BC representative to the Canadian Association of Nurses for the Environment. Aggie was recently recognized with the 2024 Canadian College of Health Leaders Nursing Leadership Award. She continues to contribute as an adjunct professor at UBC School of Nursing and Research Associate at the UBC Centre for Advancing Health Outcomes.
Dr. Catharine Schiller, RN, PhD, is the Chair of the School of Nursing and a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Northern British Columbia. With dual qualifications in nursing and law, Catharine’s career includes roles as a practicing RN at SickKids Hospital, legal counsel in health law, and a researcher in medical assistance in dying (MAiD) and professional regulation. In addition to her academic leadership, she serves on the BCCNM Discipline Committee (Vice-Chair), is a CASN Accreditation Reviewer, and sits on the Editorial Board of the BMC Nursing Journal.
We are thrilled to welcome Aggie and Catharine to RNFBC’s leadership and look forward to the vision and compassion they bring, as we continue to support nurses and nursing students across British Columbia.
